Dec. 25 7:30 a.m. Power Restoration Update
Merry Christmas to everyone. Our crews continued to make progress yesterday and through the night and we are now down to 467 members without power.
One outage persists in Big Canoe and has 224 members without electricity. The affected area is Blazing Star Trail, Wild Pansy, White Aster, Wild Cat, Blue Sage and surrounding areas. Other smaller outages have occurred in the last 24 hours in other parts of our service area.
Even though it’s Christmas Day, our crews will be working today and every day until all power is restored. The extremely cold temperatures have given us some challenges, ones that we don’t face during warmer weather, but one thing we’ve learned is that each storm is different and has different characteristics and challenges.
Thank you for your patience. Please pray for the safety of our linemen and for the safety and well being of all affected members.

5:30 p.m. Power Restoration Update
Our crews continue to battle this winter storm. We are now down to 955 members out, the majority of which are in Big Canoe. The challenging situation at Big Canoe has been a tough one, involving an underground line on the side of a bridge, the line in conduit, and any water in the conduit pipe frozen solid. Digging a new line into ground that has been frozen for two days in sub zero wind chill temps has been time intensive. These are just some of the many challenges are crews are facing. But we can say with confidence that our line crews and support personnel are some of the finest in the nation. You will not find a more dedicated group of people. They are your friends and neighbors, and are doing everything within their power to get your electricity back on so they can get home to their families too. We thank you for your patience and for your understanding. -

11:00 a.m. Power Restoration Update
The extremely cold temperatures are causing challenges to our crews. Currently in Jasper it is 11 degrees, and the wind chill is 6 degrees below zero. We commend them for their hard work during very difficult circumstances.
There are currently 1182 members out at 63 separate locations across our ten county service area. We have contractor crews that are working in addition to our crews, and all outages will be addressed as soon as is safely possible.
There are a couple of fairly large outages in the Dawson/Pickens areas of Big Canoe and surrounding areas that crews have worked on all night, and will continue to work on. Most of the other outages are small, less than 10-20 meters, and are scattered across our ten county service area. We have contractor crews that are working with our crews, and all outages will be addressed as soon as is safely possible.
If you are experiencing a power outage, please try to stay inside and exercise extreme caution when using backup heating sources. Updates will be provided to you as they become available. Thank you for your patience and please stay safe.

They are still working to resolve the issues which may now involve replacing an underground line. More information will be updated when it becomes available.Regarding the Etowah substation, we are now assessing the problem. 6:00 p.m. Power Restoration Update
We continue to make good progress today. We are now down to a few specific areas where equipment is being changed out, etc. The primary areas our crews are working in are Big Canoe in Dawson/Pickens counties, Lake Arrowhead in Cherokee County and north Gilmer County. Some members who had power previously have been taken out temporarily in order to make the necessary repairs. We will continue working, despite the bitter cold and extreme conditions, to restore all power as soon as is safely possible. Again, we appreciate your patience. We know that being without power is an inconvenience and we are working diligently to get everyone back on.
