Amicalola EMC, and other utility companies, routinely perform power pole inspection and maintenance programs. This is done to reduce replacement costs, extend the life of the poles and to increase the safety and reliability of the electric system.
Beginning in mid-February, pole inspections will be taking place in Cherokee County. Inspections will begin in the Jerusalem Church area of Pickens County and progress through Salacoa Valley.
Inspections are being conducted by McCullough Utilities. A sign identifying them as a “Contractor for Amicalola EMC” will be visible on the vehicles.
Maintenance projects like these help us keep the lights on. Amicalola EMC members should not be inconvenienced in any way. Please contact Member Service at 706-253-5200 for more information.

Don’t fall victim to scams!
Unfortunately, in today’s world, scams are inevitable. Scammers can threaten you with everything from legal action involving the IRS to turning off power to your home.
Utility scams often involve an individual or group posing as an employee of your utility company. The scammer may use threatening language in order to frighten you into offering your credit card or bank account information. Don’t fall victim to these types of scams. If someone calls your home or cell phone demanding you pay your electric bill, hang up immediately. If you have any doubts about your utility bill, contact our member payment center at 706-253-5200.
Amicalola EMC will never ask you to provide personal financial information over the phone. In fact, to comply with stricter payment card industry guidelines, Amicalola EMC stopped accepting verbal credit card numbers over the phone in 2018. Members can pay their bill using a credit card, but must do it using the automated telephone system or through the bill paying option on the website.
Amicalola EMC wants to make sure you avoid any and all types of scams that could put you or your financial information in jeopardy. -

Power Restoration Update – Crews expected to finish by noon
Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2020 8:30 am – 70 members without power at 29 separate locations
“We expect to be finished by noon.” Very encouraging words for the remaining members without power were spoken this morning at the Amicalola EMC headquarters, in our Dispatch Center. There is still a lot of work to be done, including a section that had up to 10 spans of power lines torn down, but we are optimistic that all members will be restored today, and this could happen by noon unless something unforeseen happens.
After a long hard battle that began with close to 40,000 members out of power, which included 28 circuits being out of service, and is ending after 6 1/2 straight days of very hard work by 350+ outside crew members and dozens of inside employees and a broken pole count exceeding 113, (whew!) we are almost at the end of power restoration following Tropical Storm Zeta.
We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to finish up what will go down in our history books as one of the most destructive storms and related outages in our 80 year history.

Power Restoration Update – Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2020
We currently have 1,758 Amicalola EMC members without power. These members are separated into 214 different areas. Our broken pole count is now at 113, and we expect that number to rise. It’s important to remember that many of these poles are in remote areas, sometimes in mountainous terrain, and replacing them is labor and time intensive. It’s also important to remember that while there may be no visible indicator of the reason your power is out, it can often be something down the line (of the circuit that supplies electricity to your area) that needs repair.
Today, our crews are working in the following locations and surrounding areas. We continue to be thankful for the clear weather and are expecting to make good progress. Further updates will be given as information becomes available. We thank you for your patience as we continue to battle to restore all power as soon as is safely possible.
