Amicalola EMC continues to respond to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) by taking steps to protect employees and members, while maintaining reliable and affordable electric service. In an effort to ease the stress and financial burden for our members, we have extended the suspension of disconnection of service due to nonpayment through June 1, 2020.

Winds bring trees down on power lines
Strong winds brought trees down on power lines this morning. Currently over 1900 members are without power, primarily in northern Gilmer County where trees have brought a three phase line down in two places, resulting in 1484 members out in that county. Other outages are scattered throughout our service area, including Pickens County where 200 members are without power near the Pickens/Gilmer county line.
Crews are working and all power will be restored as soon as is safely possible. Remember: never go near a downed power line and always assume they are still energized. To report a power outage, please call 706-253-0359 OR 706-276-0359 OR 706-864-0359. Please remember our social media sites are not monitored for outage reporting and you must call through the automated outage response system to have your call documented and included in our data count. Thank you for your patience.

Crews work to restore all power
We are thankful for a beautiful day with good weather so our crews can get all power restored. We do still have approx. 432 members without service in an area of Gilmer County where several poles are having to be replaced. We also have a few scattered outages in other counties, but crews are assigned and making progress. As you may know, when a storm or outage of this magnitude happens, assessments have to be made, plans formed and work begins. In cases like this, where they are so many trees down, these have to be cut and/or cleared away, which many times includes clearing them out of the roadways so crews can get in. Our right of way crews are extremely skillful and do this work as quickly as can safely be done. Once this step is complete, the line crews can get in locations and begin to rebuild the lines. Our service area is 1100 square miles of territory, in many cases over mountainous terrain that is not easily accessible. The mountains we call home are beautiful but they do pose unique challenges during power restoration. Thank you all for your patience as we work hard to restore all power as soon as is safely possible.

Overnight storms leave widespread power outages
Severe weather swept through Georgia overnight, leaving downed trees and downed power lines. Crews are working to restore electricity as quickly and safely as possible. Currently, 7770 members in our service area are without power. We have widespread outages in nine of the ten counties we serve: Gilmer County has 4987, Lumpkin 792, Cherokee 649, Bartow 509, Pickens 433, followed by Fannin, Dawson and Gordon. Outages may be reported to 706-253-0359 OR 706-276-0359 OR 706-864-0359.
Amicalola EMC cautions members to be mindful of the following safety measures to ensure the safety of the public and EMC personnel:
• Do not approach line crews given the current COVID-19 pandemic.
• Motorists approaching utility linemen at an active work site are required to change lanes or reduce their speed to a proper speed below the posted speed limit. Motorists who do not change lanes or drop their speed to avoid utility workers can be fined up to $250 per incident.
• Do not try and remove trees or limbs that have fallen onto power lines.
• Continue to use caution and stay away from downed power lines and always assume they are still energized. For further information regarding outages, please visit www.amicalolaemc.com.
