*A Wind Chill Advisory has been issued for portions of North and West Central Georgia starting tonight into Saturday morning – wind chill values near zero degrees are expected.
*Minimum temperatures Saturday morning and Sunday morning are expected in the teens.
*Wind gusts up to 30 MPH can be expected Friday after the cold front moves through.
*Remember the 4 P’s – People, Pets, Pipes, and Plants. Check in on your neighbors and make sure they are prepared. The prolonged period of sub-freezing temperatures will bring the threat of frozen pipes. Cover exposed pipes and keep at least one faucet dripping.
The Church, located at 127 Sanders Street, is open through Monday morning for warming, hot meals, and a place to rest.
January 2024 marks the 25th anniversary of Amicalola EMC’s Operation RoundUp. Last night the board met and celebrated this important milestone. To date our Operation RoundUp program has awarded $2.5 million dollars to non-profits and qualifying individuals in the community.
Where do these funds come from? The contribution is from the members of Amicalola EMC and participation is 100% voluntary. When you join Operation RoundUp your electric bill is rounded up to the next dollar each month. The average co-op member donates approximately $6 a year. It may not seem like much, but when more members participate the money begins to add up and the opportunity to make a difference increases.
Last night, as we passed around thank you notes from past recipients, it was clear to see #RealHeroesRoundUp so thank YOU for your contribution to this cause!
Ways to join or apply:
To join call 706-253-5200 or visit our website at https://www.amicalolaemc.com/my-community/operation-round-up/ to access the sign up form.

In the event of a power outage, be sure to use backup generators safely. Improper use can create dangerous situations for you and others. #generatorsafety

Electricity plays an essential role in everyday life.
We’re proud to be your local, trusted energy provider. From the time it’s created to the time it’s used, electricity travels great distances to be available at the flip of a switch. That’s what makes the electric grid our nation’s most complex machine–and one of our nation’s greatest achievements.
Our crews continue to work hard and the current outage count is down to 785 members spread across 39 locations, with the majority in Gilmer County. We are aware of up to five broken poles that are being replaced. We have three PIKE Electric contract crews helping our Amicalola EMC crew members.
Areas that we know have damage include
-Jesse’s Way
-Talking Rock Creek off of 136 in Pickens County
-Rock Creek
-HWY 136 W in Gilmer County
-Old Federal Road in Gilmer County
Please stay away from any downed power lines and always assume they are still energized. Stay clear to stay safe! Thank you for your patience as we work to restore all power as soon as is safely possible.
Currently we are down to 311 members out of power at 22 separate locations. Crews are working in all areas that are still without power.
Pictured here are Casey Ellis and Collan Sanford of Amicalola EMC (far left) and the crew from Greystone Power (headquartered in Hiram, GA) as they work to replace two broken poles in Hickory Cove, (off of Cove Road) in Pickens County. We appreciate their hard work!
Our crews have worked through the night and continue to make good progress. Currently we are down to 39 separate outages affecting 1,097 members.
At this time, we have confirmed that we have at least twelve broken poles in ten separate locations. That count may continue to rise. Replacement on these will begin this morning and are in the affected areas:
• Sutallee Ridge Ct, White
• Hearthstone Trl, Canton
• Hickory Cove Rd, Jasper (2 broke poles)
• Wheeler Cabin Rd, Jasper (1 broke pole and two more leaning)
• Circle Drive near Walnut Mtn, Ellijay
• Old Parker Terrace, Ellijay (2 broken poles)
• Rock Creek Ct, Cherry Log
• Carlton Seitz, Dahlonega
In addition, two areas have been identified as areas with limited access and will be more time and labor intensive. Those areas are:
• Elford Rd, Ellijay
• Fletcher Dr, Dahlonega
• N. Garrett Branch Road, Ellijay
In addition to our Amicalola EMC crew members, thanks to our statewide mutual aid agreement, the following sister EMCs have sent assistance to us: Carroll EMC, Greystone Power, North GA EMC and Blue Ridge Mountain EMC. We also have multiple contract line crews from PIKE Electric. Real Tree Inc. and Tree Line Services are right of way contractors who are assisting our Amicalola EMC right of way crews.
In total, we have approximately 200 crew members working this restoration effort in the field and there are 40+ employees working behind the scenes in areas such as our Dispatch Control Center, Warehousing, Purchasing, Information Systems, Member Services, Communications, etc.
Thank you for your patience as we continue to strive to get everyone’s power restored. Please remember to stay away from any downed power lines and always assume they are still energized. Please report all outages to one of the following numbers: 706-253-0359 OR 706-276-0359 OR 706-864-0359.
Our crews have worked so hard and we are now down to 2500 members without power. Crews will continue working through the night but the outages are widespread and restoration will take some time to complete.
Please remember to stay away from any downed power lines and always assume they are still energized.
