Winning teachers at Ball Ground Elementary, Cherokee High, Clayton Elementary, Creekland Middle, Creekview High, Hasty Elementary, R.M. Moore Elementary and Teasley Middle School were surprised today with “big checks” totaling $14,871. Congratulations to all our winners!

Bright Ideas Teacher Grants Awarded
Amicalola EMC began awarding their 2023 Bright Ideas Teacher Grants today as they presented $7,373 to 14 winning teachers in Lumpkin County. Teachers at Cottrell Elementary, Lumpkin Middle, Lumpkin High and Blackburn Elementary were surprised today with “big” checks.
This year, Amicalola EMC is awarding $50,222.74 to 74 winning teachers at 29 schools across the Amicalola EMC service area. All funding is in accordance with Georgia’s unclaimed property laws. Amicalola EMC is pleased to be able to offer this continued support of education by recognizing the dedicated teachers in our schools. Congratulations to all the winners!

Breast Cancer Awareness Day at Amicalola EMC
Amicalola EMC employees dressed in pink today and are wearing bracelets to help bring awareness to Breast Cancer. Held in October every year, Breast Cancer Awareness Month aims to promote screening and prevention of the disease, which affects one in eight women in the United States every year and 2.3 million women worldwide.

Amicalola EMC observes ADHD Awareness Day October 6
ADHD is one of the most common neurodevelopmental disorders of childhood. It is usually first diagnosed in childhood and often lasts into adulthood. Children with ADHD may have trouble paying attention, controlling impulsive behaviors (may act without thinking about what the result will be), or be overly active.
October is ADHD Awareness Month and Amicalola EMC employees are showing their support by wearing orange awareness bracelets and orange clothing.

Willie Wiredhand invites you to the 82nd Amicalola EMC annual meeting of the membership
Willie Wiredhand says “Happy fall, ya’ll” and he invites you to the annual meeting this Saturday, October 7 at the headquarters office in Jasper. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m., entertainment by the Glorybound Quarter will begin at 12:30 p.m. and the business session will immediately follow at 1:30 p.m. We hope to see you there!
Created in 1950, Willie is the mascot of NRECA and the electric cooperatives. He was introduced as the rural farmer’s “servant and best friend” always ready to assist on the farm and in the home.

Early morning outage in Lumpkin County
An early morning outage on Camp Wasega Road in Lumpkin County resulted in 311 members out of power. Around 6:00 a.m. a large tree fell on the power line, breaking a pole in the process. We appreciate Lumpkin County Road Department and their work on clearing the debris out of the road.
