Pole inspections to begin in Cherokee and south Pickens counties.
Amicalola EMC, and other utility companies, routinely perform power pole inspection and maintenance programs. This is done to reduce replacement costs, extend the life of the poles and to increase the safety and reliability of the electric system. Pole inspections will soon begin in the following areas: Reavis Mtn., Flat Bottom and Nelson. Inspections are being conducted by McCullough Utilities. A sign identifying them as a “Contractor for Amicalola EMC” will be visible on the vehicles. Maintenance projects like these help us keep the lights on. Amicalola EMC members should not be inconvenienced in any way. Please contact Member Service at 706-253-5200 for more information. -

Right of way trimming along Chatsworth Highway to include helicopters
Beginning Monday, February 14 Amicalola EMC will have contract crews trimming rights of way along Chatsworth Highway from the area of New Hope Store west to the Murray County line.
This trimming will include work being done by helicopters on Monday and Tuesday, trimming areas away from structures. After that, the work will be done by hand to clear other overhangs and to clean up debris. Clean up of debris will take several days, but will be completed as soon as possible.
There could be some disruptions of power while the helicopter crews are working. We will strive to keep these disruptions to a minimum.

Amicalola EMC celebrates 82 years of lighting the way for rural north Georgia!
(photo on left) Previous location on Burnt Mtn. Hwy in Jasper. (photo on right) Original employees and board members. Steve Tate (bottom row 5th from left and the insert photo) was president of Georgia EMC, our statewide trade association, from 1942 – 1944 and the first president of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association.
Founded on February 10, 1940 by a group of community leaders who were committed to bringing electricity to the rural areas who so desperately needed it, Amicalola EMC has spent the past 8 decades improving the quality of life for our member-consumers. Following the cooperative business model, owned by the members we serve, our founding mission was simple; bring electricity to the areas that were unserved at a price the residents could afford to pay. We’ve accomplished that and more – today our rates are lower than the state average and lower than the local investor owned utility. Thanks to conservative business practices and successful navigation of wholesale power purchases, the members of Amicalola EMC haven’t had a rate increase in over a decade. We work hard every day to keep the lights on and the rates affordable and we still have one simple mission – provide a safe and reliable source of electricity at a price our members can afford to pay. #wekeepthelightson
