Amicalola EMC, and other utility companies, routinely perform power pole inspection and maintenance programs. This is done to reduce replacement costs, extend the life of the poles and to increase the safety and reliability of the electric system.
Starting now and continuing throughout June and July, pole inspections will be taking place in Cherokee County in the Clayton/Waleska area and in Lake Arrowhead.
Inspections are being conducted by McCullough Utilities. A sign identifying them as a “Contractor for Amicalola EMC” will be visible on the vehicles.
Maintenance projects like these help us keep the lights on. Amicalola EMC members should not be inconvenienced in any way. Please contact Member Service at 706-253-5200 for more information.

Effective Monday, May 17, 2021 Amicalola EMC offices and facilities will fully reopen lobbies at all three locations. Lobbies had been originally closed in March 2020. A trial reopening proved to be short-lived, after which lobbies were closed again from July 2020 until the present time.
Normal business transactions were never fully interrupted, as drive through windows, night deposits and various digital options remained fully operational the entire time.

Amicalola EMC awards $131,000 in college scholarship to area students
Amicalola EMC held its first ever virtual scholarship banquet on April 27, 2021. Due to the limitations Covid-19 has put on public gatherings, the decision was made to forego the usually youth awards banquet and announce the winners through GoToMeeting, a web-hosted online meeting software that enables users to meet via the Internet in real time.
131 high school students from across the EMC service area were recognized for their hard work. Each student will receive a $1,000 scholarship, payable to the college of their choosing. Winners were selected based primarily upon grade point average and financial need.
Amicalola EMC is pleased to offer financial support to the Class of 2021. All scholarships are funded using unclaimed capital credits, in accordance with Georgia’s unclaimed property laws.

Crews battling storm damage
Storms crashed through our service area most of the day yesterday (March 25) and all through the night. At one point, 3,500 Amicalola EMC consumers were experiencing a power outage scattered across most of the ten counties we serve. Currently, the outage count is at 626 consumers out, in 36 separate areas across 5 counties.
Our broken pole count is currently at five, three of which were three phase poles. These three phase poles had to be replaced before power could be restored to the circuits that carry electricity on down the line to other areas. At this time, only one single phase pole still remains out of service (in the Chatsworth Highway area) and crews are working there now.
In addition, we have crews in the following areas: Conasauga, Chatsworth Highway, Maple Rest, Canaan Road, Tails Creek, Pole Coffee, CC Camp, Wilderness Trail and Fields Chapel areas. The Wilderness Trail and CC Camp areas have severe devastation.
All three of our districts (Dahlonega, Ellijay and Jasper) had a fare amount of damage. Amicalola EMC serves more meters in Gilmer County than any other county and there was substantial damage in that area.
Crews will continue working until all power has been restored. Please be aware of the following information
- Report power outages to these numbers only 706-253-0359 OR 706-276-0359 OR 706-864-0359. This is the outage management system and is the most efficient way to report outages and assist in timely power restorations.
- Do not go near a downed power line. Always assume the line is still energized. Stay clear to stay safe.
- Substantial damage has occurred to power lines, streets and roadways, and across our service area. Crews must clear debris, tree limbs and even trees before restoration work can begin.
- We will update social media as information becomes available, but please do not report outages or any detailed messages on our facebook page, as it is not monitored for these details and is not monitored 24 hours a day.
- Real-time outage information may be found on our website at www.amicalolaemc.com or on our mobile app.
We thank everyone for their patience. All power will be restored as soon as is safely possible.

Happy anniversary to us!
Amicalola EMC was created on February 10, 1940. Thanks to the hard work and cooperation among farmers, rural residents and business leaders in our community, the lights came on for the first time in 1941. Eighty one years later, we are still lighting the way for rural north Georgia. Our original leaders probably never imagined how far we would come, but today we provide electricity and related services to over 51,000 locations in portions of ten north Georgia counties: Bartow, Cherokee, Dawson, Fannin, Forsyth, Gilmer, Gordon, Lumpkin, Murray and Pickens counties. And we do it affordably – our rates are below the state average and below the local investor owned utility. When you flip that light switch today, say a word of gratitude for the Amicalola EMC electric pioneers who paved the way to improve the quality of life for all of us. Thank you for allowing us to provide your home or business with reliable, affordable and safe electricity.
