Storm Update – Wednesday, July 31, 2024

7:00 PM

We are down to 7,843 consumers out at 217 separate locations. The crews have worked hard today and battled hot humid conditions. We appreciate the efforts of each Amicalola EMC crew and the crews from other EMCs. We would also like to thank our member services representatives and dispatchers for everything they have done today to help our members. We have a few more hours of work to be done, and then all crews will be getting some much needed rest. Although not all power will  be restored today, we are proud of the progress that has been made, and we will work tomorrow to cover as much ground as possible. Thank you for your patience and remember, stay away from downed power lines. They could be energized and your safety is top priority. To report outages or storm damage to lines please call 706-253-0359, 706-276-0359 OR 706-864-0359.

We have confirmed a total of 29 broken poles so far. Some of the areas affected are: Big Buck Mtn (8 broken poles), Rutledge Ln, Wise Acres (at least 5 broken poles), Vick Dr, Blackberry Mtn Dr, Misty Valley, Cripple Creek Ln and Ikes Cir (2 broken poles). Several broken poles have been replaced already, but the ones listed here have not been.

Amicalola EMC linemen and right of way crews alongside outside crews continue to work diligently. We are currently down to 10,088 members without power. The process of power restoration begins at the substations. Power must be flowing out on the main lines (circuits) from the substation before it can reach the rest of the system. Once the main lines are restored, then we can begin to work on areas like subdivisions or areas that are more densely populated. Our goal is to get the lines repaired that serve the most consumers first, and work toward the smaller outages. Some of the smaller outages with broken poles likely won’t be back on by the end of today. We apologize, as we know being without power is an inconvenience.

Our primary focus is safety – we want everyone (employees and members alike) to be able to return home safely at the end of the day. Thank you for your continued support and patience.
