The dog days of summer are in full swing, and it’s ruff out there. So the question is, how do we cope? The answer – not quite as simple. Lots of popsicles, perhaps. Saving energy during the hottest time of the year can seem impossible, but with a little discipline, you can make small changes that will pay off in the long run! The big ticket item: cooling your home. Your HVAC uses a lot of energy to keep the inside cooler than the outside. This is why we suggest raising your thermostat. However, that’s not the only way to keep things cool. Window coverings, for example, can be a big help. The Department of Energy says the smart management of window coverings can reduce heat gain by up to 77%. Remembering when to open and close those window coverings might take some training, but the rewards are worth it.
