Rate Increase Frequently Asked Questions
- How will this change affect my bill?
- The average household uses around 1,250 kWh per month. With the new rate, the average residential bill will increase by approximately $7 a month. Please keep in mind an average is a measure of central tendency, which is why this number does not reflect what your usage might be during extreme cold or extreme hot temperatures.
- When will this change go into effect?
- March 1st, 2025
- Why is the rate change necessary?
- We are a not-for-profit cooperative and our rates are set to cover the cost of doing business. Because we follow the cooperative business model, all operating expenses are passed on to our members. Rising power supply costs, increased demand for electricity and changing regulations governing the power industry are all factors that can impact our rates. In recent years, the co-op has experienced rapid growth in our service area. To keep up with the increased demand for electricity, new generation has been added. Through our wholesale energy suppliers, Oglethorpe Power and Georgia Energy Cooperative, we receive emission-free nuclear energy from one of the largest clean energy projects in the nation, Plant Vogtle units 3 and 4. Amicalola EMC’s investment in the Vogtle project comes with a cost.
